Local band ZamTrip talks music as they prepare for Thursday’s gig at Buddha Bob’s

ROCK SPRINGS – The lights a shadowy blue, the humming of the Marshall stacks can be felt as the hammer is dropped on the opening power cord, shooting electricity and, like Frankenstein, bringing the crowd to life.

While dreams of rock stardom for most are just that, dreams, for one local band of brothers and one brave rock chick, ZamTrip is taking their music to the masses. For this local band, playing with big bands is becoming a habit as they will again share the stage at Buddha Bob’s with American Hitmen on Thursday night.

Cory Zampedri, Kyle Zampedri, Cody Zampedri joined by vocalist Samantha Newman have been showcasing their talents locally and will again as they take the stage on Thursday starting at 7 p.m. at Buddha Bob’s. They will be rocking the stage for about an hour, after which American Hitmen will finish out the night.

The band described their live show as lots of energy, good music and fun with a mixture of original songs and cover songs from classic to current rock. ZamTrip recently finished up two new songs but have just released their current hit, Back Seat Love Song.

While fans can expect a fun show, oldest brother Kyle also said fans should come out and support the local bands. He said they love to play and want to play music for as many people as they can. He shared he has heard stories of how strong the music scene in Rock Springs was in the 1980’s and 1990’s and how live local music seems to have lost a lot of momentum.

Kyle said there are a lot of talented local musicians in the area and it is important to support all local music.

Cory, Cody and Samantha added  if you love good rock music and want to have a good time come out and enjoy.

ZamTrip will open for American Hitmen from Salt Lake City. American Hitmen were on America’s Got Talent and have opened for band like Black Stone Cherry and Godsmack.

While those names may shake a few bands, ZamTrip has shared the stage with some major acts, including recently at Flaming Gorge Days as they opened for HaleStorm. They have also opened for Royal Bliss, which is one of their favorite bands, and this summer will be part of Thunder Rock in Vernal, Utah, on June 7, which will feature Vince Neil, Slaughter, Kix, Blue Oyster Cult, Firehouse and April Wine just to name a few.

Cory said opening for Halestorm was intense.

“I was nervous and then my nerves went away,” he recalled “Then you get up there and there are a thousand people staring at you waiting to see what you got. My nerves came back.”

Kyle and Cody joked they seemed to rush most of their songs that night but everything came out alright.

But, while opening for these bands has been great for the band, watching from the side of the stage has also been a valuable learning experience. Samantha said she learned a lot by watching the interaction of the band Halestorm and lead singer Lzzy Hale. She said just watching how she kept the crowd totally involved was awesome to see. Cory said Halestorm did everything to keep the crowd energized.

The said the same with watching Royal Bliss. The band said just how they interact with an audience from the stage is so amazing. They also joked it is 10 times harder knowing they are watching you from the side of the stage when you are playing.

For youngest member Cody, one of the best pieces of advice came from Josh Hutcherson bassist from Halestorm.

“He told us don’t change a thing you guys are going to go somewhere,” he shared adding how cool it was to hear that.

Samantha said Halestorm and Royal Bliss have told the young band not to get discouraged with the way the music business can be. Cory added Hailstorm had three albums out before they finally got a break.

ZamTrip also had another bit of big news as they launched a new website, ZamTriprocks.com. Fans can listen to ZamTrip music while also finding links where they can purchase some for their private collections. All four members of the band were quick to thank Amy Rasdall.

“Without her, we wouldn’t be here,” they all said.

Music fans can also check them out on facebook and Twitter and can also get ZamTrip music at several other locations: I-Tunes, Amazon and Music Unlimited.

Lately their new song Back Seat Love Song has also been heard on WyoRadio station KSIT 99.7. The band will be on air with J.J. on 99.7 this Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. talking about music and their gig at Buddha Bob”s that night.

They have played the Broadway several times in the past couple of months as well as other small shows. While still playing locally, the band is looking at dates out of state this summer. Besides Thunder Rock, they will also play at Race for the Cure in Salt Lake City on May 10. ZamTrip rocked the race last year and said it was a blast playing for about 11,000 racers. They are also looking at a few dates in Idaho but nothing has been finalized yet.

If you like a breath of fresh rock music in your day, check out ZamTrip at Buddha Bob’s on Thursday at 7 p.m.  Also keep your eye out for other local dates as well as new music on their website and their other social media sites.
