GREEN RIVER — Earlier this month, the Green River Knights American Legion baseball team found their travel bus vandalized while parked at Stratton Myers Park.
The team found the vandalized bus the morning of June 4, and the vandalism is expected to have taken place between May 31 and June 2, according to Green River Police Chief Tom Jarvie. Several windows were busted out and broken and the A/C line was cut, with damages totaling about $2,500, Chief Jarvie said.
Peppar Griffiths, President of the Green River Knights board, said two local businesses stepped up to pay for the repairs.
Searle Brothers Construction and NAPA Auto Parts Green River/Rock Springs stepped in to cover the costs to get the bus operable again. Additionally, DJ’s Glass Plus worked quickly to get the windows replaced as soon as possible so the baseball team could travel once again.
Griffiths said Searle Brothers Construction covered the cost of the windows, and NAPA donated the parts needed to fix the A/C. DJ’s got the bus in as soon as it was dropped off on June 8 and had it ready to go for the team to travel by June 10.
“We would just like to thank all of our local businesses for the support they have given us, and especially these three for stepping up when we needed help the most,” Griffiths said.
There is an ongoing investigation and anyone with any information is encouraged to call dispatch at 875-1400 and ask to speak with an officer. Chief Jarvie said anonymous tips are also always welcome. Information can be emailed to PDinfo@cityofgreenriver.org.
