ROCK SPRINGS — MaryAnn Piaia, 83, of Rock Springs, Wyoming passed away on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at the Mesa View Hospital in Mesquite, Nevada.  A lifelong resident of Rock Springs, Mrs. Piaia died following a brief illness.

She was born on November 18, 1930 in Rock Springs, Wyoming, the daughter of the late Paul and Mary Chenchar.

Mrs. Piaia attended school in Rock Springs and graduated in 1948 from Rock Springs High School. After high school, she attended a year of nursing school at the University of Wyoming.

She married Duce Piaia on February 17, 1952, they were married sixty-two years.

She and her husband have owned and operated Bi-Rite Drug Store for many years.  She also owned Ann’s Hallmark for the past 35 years.

Mrs. Piaia was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Community, PEO Chapter AE, and St. Christophers. In earlier years, she was the Woman’s Club Champion at Rolling Green Country Club. She enjoyed taking care of her family, golfing, traveling and playing Bridge.

Survivors include her husband Duce Piaia of Rock Springs, Wyoming; four sons, David M. Piaia and wife Theresa, Paul S. Piaia, Mark P. Piaia and wife Dawn and John D. Piaia and wife Charlotte all of Rock Springs, Wyoming; one daughter Michele Piaia and husband Luis Martinez of Mesa, Arizona; seven grandchildren Jason, Mark C., Steven, Katy, Ali, Karli and Ashlyn Piaia.

She was preceded in death by her parents Paul and Mary Chenchar, two brothers Paul Chenchar and John Chenchar, and one sister Christina “Tini” Stalick.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 116 Broadway, Rock Springs, Wyoming. A rosary will be recited at 6:00 P.M.Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at the church. Interment will be in the Rock Springs Municipal Cemetery. Friends may call at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church on Tuesday from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. andon Wednesday, one hour prior to services.
