ROCK SPRINGS– At the Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County Board of Trustees Meeting on August 1, the board unanimously approved a board self-evaluation survey that would allow the board to assess and improve their performance and duties in a number of categories.
Vice President Taylor Jones, Treasurer Marty Kelsey, Secretary Ed Tardoni, and Trustee Barbara Sowada all voted in favor of the self-assessment. President Richard Mathey was absent from the meeting.
According to The Governance Institute (TGI), surveys like these send a message to senior leadership, staff, and physicians that the board takes its governance responsibilities seriously.
The board would evaluate their performance in the following categories: Duty of Care, Duty of Loyalty, Duty of Obedience, Financial Oversight, Quality Oversight, Strategic Direction, Board Development, Management Oversight, and Community Benefit.
Next Steps
Now that the board has approved the self-assessment survey, the following steps will be taken:
- Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County CEO Irene Richardson will notify The Governance Institute (TGI) that the board will complete The Governance Institute’s Board Self-Assessment.
- TGI will send a copy of the survey to Richardson and information for returning the survey to TGI.
- Richardson will email the survey and return information to each board member. The board members will have 2 to 3 weeks to complete the survey.
- TGI will compile the data and send the report to Richardson and Board President Richard Mathey. The report compares the Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County Board with similar hospitals, as well as industry standards. It also suggests relevant GI resources.
- The board will then evaluate the recommendations and then develop and implement improvements as necessary.
