Morris Announces Candidacy for School District #2 Board Trustee

GREEN RIVER– My name is Rachelle Morris and I would like to announce my bid for Sweetwater County School District #2 Board Trustee.

As a Board Trustee I will listen to, hear, and voice your thoughts and opinions to the rest of the trustee’s. As an elected official, it is our duty and responsibility to do our research, listen to, and answer to the community we represent regardless of whether we concur or not.

Communication will not always involve agreement but can be accomplished with respect and dignity.

Last year changes were made at the elementary school my children attend. I and other parents sought out the side of the story that could explain why so many changes were occurring, and ultimately hoped that some of the changes could be reversed. We were not successful.

The lack of success did not leave me bitter; it fueled my desire to be involved and to support the children, parents, staff and administration of our school district. I want other parents to be involved and voice their praises and concerns, so I will lead by example.

If I’m going to question decision making within our district, it is important that I am also willing to step up and offer myself and my time to the district. Regardless of where I sit during school board meetings, at the front or in the audience, I will be active, involved, and advocate for our children and the staff within our schools.

Of my 41 years, 30 have been spent as a resident of Green River. I attended Jackson Elementary School, Monroe Middle School, and graduated from Green River High School. I was lucky enough to be taught by some of the most amazing and influential teachers District #2 had to offer.

After marrying my husband, William Morris, I was able to continue my education, graduating from the University of Wyoming with a Bachelor of Science in Sociology, and Regis University with a Master of Nonprofit Management.

Now our children, Jaxon, Aiden, and Aniston, are blessed enough to attend school in the same district we grew up in. We remain grateful and indebted to the wonderful teachers and staff that have helped them learn and grow.

I continue to be amazed each year at the dedication of the staff and the connections they make with all of our children.

As the Director of Young at Heart Early Learning Center for the past 7 years I know how important it is to have people who love children and have a desire for them to reach their fullest potential.

Those that interact with and teach children on a daily basis are what make programs and schools great. Prior to my current position, I worked for the Wyoming Department of Family Services investigating allegations of abuse and neglect of children and adults.

In this position I refined the skill of doing research, keeping emotions in check, getting all sides of the story, and refraining from offering an opinion until I had all the pertinent information.

As a Board Trustee of School District #2 I aim to enhance communication, make informed decisions, and promote parental involvement on all levels.

I encourage all parents to become involved, help in your child’s classroom if you can, volunteer for PTO, email your principals and superintendent to tell them about the amazing things you’ve seen going on in your school, and run for the school board.

Use your voice and be heard. Do your research, ask questions, sing peoples praises, and share your informed opinions.

I humbly ask for your support, your vote, and your involvement.
