“We rely on our chapters to help advance the human resource profession and to lead by example,” O’Brien said. “They are the core of the organization, living the society’s mission throughout the country.”

The Society’s mission is to serve the needs of HR professionals and to advance the profession of human resource management.

The new local chapter has membership in industry and business to local healthcare agencies, such as Castle Rock as well as support from the local chambers. Local President Kara Beech, explained they were going to call the local chapter Sweetwater County Human Resources but changed the name to High Desert after they saw a bigger network including Evanston and Kemmerer. Beech said they also want to bring Rawlins on board in the near future.

Beech said High Desert Resources Association currently has 32 members who are from organizations of various sizes and industries. The local board shows the diversity represented by High Desert Human Resources as they recently nominated new officers. President Elect is Amanda DeBernardi who represents Black Butte Coal Company. Vice President of Membership is Deli Frantzen who represents Trona Valley Community Federal Credit Union. Kelly Brink of OCI Chemical is Treasurer while Kristyn Muniz, administrative assistant of the city of Rock Springs is the Secretary. Sweetwater Child Developmental Center Lynne Chadey is the Governmental and Legislative Affairs Director while Black Butte Coal Company’s Faith Schuler is the Website and Social Media Director. Finally, Malinda Searle of ManPower is the Workforce Readiness Director.

To be a member, one must be involved in human resources. You also need to be a member of the National Chapter of  SHRM which has registration requirements and information on its website at http://www.shrm.org/. Beech said to contact Frantzen for membership information.

The local chapter is working to provide monthly education on workplace topics to members and potential members. Beech said if you own a business or have employees, you have human resources needs and you may just not have a dedicated employee whose sole function is human resources. She said the association would like to reach out to those small businesses and be a resource for the community.

“The High Desert Human Resources Association will serve as an important local voice, providing leadership on key business and workplace issues and helping to improve the practice of human resources management within our membership and within the community,” Beech said.
