New Proposal Between SEA and School District No. 1 To Be Discussed Monday

ROCK SPRINGS – The Sweetwater Education Association and the Sweetwater County School District No. 1 Board of Trustees will meet on Monday to discuss the most recent proposal between the two groups.

On Monday, July 11 at 6 p.m., the groups will be discussing the recent proposal at an open meeting for all interested parties, The meeting will be at the Central Administration Building.

Past proposals between the two groups were rejected. Recently, a mediator’s report was submitted which brought the two groups back to the table resuming negotiations. This resulted in a new proposal which was drafted on June 30. This is the proposal the groups will be discussing Monday.

In the mediators report, several things were discussed in early negotiations. The report said all matters discussed were contingent on maintaining the SEA President leave in its entirety. The district argued sound fiscal policy required the $74,000 expenditure be eliminated. The association argued it could not assume this liability.

“This issue was the deal breaker,” the mediator report stated. “The contingency prevented tentative agreements on any of the other issues. After four and a half hours of good discussions and compromised on both sides, neither of the parties would move off of their respect positions concerning SEA President leave.”
