Paintball Park in Rock Springs Gets Two More Years

SWEETWATER COUNTY – The paintball park in Rock Springs can continue to stay at its current location for another two years.

On Tuesday, the Sweetwater County Commission approved a lease agreement with the city for the property it sits on. The agreement has been going on for over a decade now.

Up until 2013, the lease agreement was approved yearly. In 2013, both parties agreed to extend the lease to a two-year agreement. Sweetwater County Engineer John Radosevich said the lease is up and another one was ready to be approved.

There were small changes this year. Radosevich said he worked closely with the Sweetwater County Attorney’s Office who had a few language suggestions.

For example, in the current terms of the lease it states the city will establish a paintball park. He explained the County Attorney’s Office was more comfortable if the agreement said establish and maintain. The city has maintained the park since it was first introduced which was noted by Radosevich. He said the County Attorney’s Office felt better with it in the agreement.

When the paintball park was built over a decade ago, the city of Rock Springs planned to place it on the property line since the neighboring land owner was the county. After it was built, it was learned it was built on the wrong side of the line.

Commissioner John Kolb, who was acting Chairman in the absence of both Wally Johnson and Reid West, asked why the lease was not longer than two years. Radosevich said there is a possible land change in the works.

The new lease agreement is good until September of 2017.

The park is located at 300 Community Drive, up by Vase Memorial Ballfields of Elk Street. The park is open from 7 a.m. until 9 p.m. daily. If residents would like to reserve the park for activities there is a form on the city of Rock Springs’ website.
