ROCK SPRINGS– The Race on the Rock organizers received some pretty amazing news this week.
Not only do they have returning Para-Olympian Omar Bermejo competing this year, but a 2004 Olympian and the Number 1 Ranked female Triathlete in the world 2003-2004, Barb Lindquist will be present to coach her rising star in Triathlon.
She plans to come out of retirement and race as well. The Triathlon is less than a month away on August 25, 2018.
These amazing participants are joining us and coming to Rock Springs because the race was able to move to the gorge this year.
Bermejo Seeking a Spot on the 2020 Para-Olympic Triathlon Team for Tokyo
Omar Bermejo is still on the hunt to win a spot on the 2020 Para-Olympic Triathlon team for Tokyo. Most recently he raced in Italy and Edmonton, Canada in his fight for a spot on the Olympic Team.
He is also expecting to be named to the International Triathlon Union World Championships team that will be representing the US at the Australian Gold Coast the middle of September.
Lindquist is a Recruiter for USA Triathlon
Barb Lindquist, a Casper native, has worked for USA Triathlon in the High Performance Department recruiting NCAA runners and swimmers to do triathlon post-grad in order to talent ID for our Olympic pipeline.
Two of her recruits were in Rio, with one earning gold. Lindquist is part of the USAT Women’s Committee.
This year she was tasked to mentor a first time triathlete female through a triathlon and the Race on the Rock was chosen as her debut! It appears Lindquist is also recruiting many youth racers to join the race this year as well.
These amazing participants in the race just add to a great pool of participants. None of this would have been possible without the assistance from DeBernardi Construction, Matt Jackman and Jackman Construction, and the approval from the Ashley National Forest, the BLM, and Sweetwater County.
