Pete Burns Co-Founder of Burns Rodeo Company passes away at age 85

LARAMIE – Pete Burns, who founded the Burns Rodeo Company with his oldest son Hal in 1979 and turned it into one of the most respected stock contracting firms in the sport, died Jan. 25 at his home outside Laramie, Wyo. He was 85.

Burns was a bareback rider, bull rider and steer wrestler for the University of Wyoming in 1947 and joined the Rodeo Cowboys Association the following year, competing in the professional ranks for several years – the high point was a bull riding win at the Greeley (Colo.) Stampede – before turning his attention to stock contracting.
