HERRIMAN, Utah — Team Pineda competed at the All-Star Karate tournament in Herriman, Utah on August 21.
The team took a newer group of students, with most competing in their first out of town tournament. The
team competed in forms, weapons, sparring, board breaking, padded sword sparring, and flag sparring.
Overall, the group had a good showing and a great learning experience competing against other styles of martial arts schools. The five competitors placed 18 times at the tournament.
Advanced competitor Jessie Kniep competed in the 13-15 year old divisions, leading the team with a
great performance winning first place in forms, weapons, and sparring.
Christy Pelham competing in the first-timers division, placing second in forms and sparring.
Cris McBee placed first in weapons, padded sword sparring, self defense, sparring and third in forms.
Drew Beardall competed in first-timers forms and placed second in sparring.
Kaylin Warner placed first in sparring and second in flag sparring.
Aydin Hill placed first in forms and sparring and third in padded sword sparring.
The next competition will also be in Utah on September 11, followed by the 40th Annual Western
Wyoming Karate Championships held at the Green River Recreation Center on September 25.
