Pokes Return to Action Hosting Cornell

LARAMIE – The Wyoming Cowboys will return to action after finals week by hosting Cornell of the Ivy League on Saturday afternoon in the Arena-Auditorium. Tip time is set for 4 p.m. MT and is the first meeting between the two schools and is a campus game for the Continental Tires Las Vegas Classic.

The game will be broadcast live on radio over the 25 affiliate stations of the Cowboy Sports Network. Fans can watch live, follow live stats and listen to the contest on GoWyo.com.

A Look at the Matchup

The Cowboys head into the weekend with a 7-2 record and are currently riding a four-game winning streak. The Pokes are defending well this season ranking No. 29 in the nation in field goal percentage defense at 38.1. UW also defends the three-point line as opponents are shooting only 29.5 percent, a number that ranks No. 39 in the nation. Wyoming lead the Mountain West and rank 37th nationally in three-point field goals per game at 9.4.

The Big Red are 2-5 on the season and will be playing in their first game since Nov. 30, which was an 80-77 win over Northeastern. Cornell is averaging 68.4 points per game and is allowing 76.4 point per contest. The Big Red are shooting 42 percent from the field and 31 percent from the three-point line. Opponents are shooting 46 percent from the field and 39 percent from behind the arc.

Each Team’s Leaders

The Cowboys are led in scoring by sophomore guard Justin James. He is averaging 15.4 points per game on the season. James is shooting 48 percent from the field and adds 4.2 rebounds per game. Senior guard Jason McManamen is pouring in 15.3 points per game. He leads the conference and ranks No. 42 in the nation in minutes per game at 35:20. He ranks third in the MW in three-pointers per game at 2.7. Junior forward Alan Herndon is adding 11.0 points per game and 6.3 rebounds. He ranks third in the MW and No. 85 in the country in blocked shots per game at 1.7. Junior forward Hayden Dalton leads the team in rebounding at 6.6 per game. He also adds 9.4 points per night.

The Big red are led in scoring by Matt Morgan. He is averaging 19 points per game to go along with a team-high 5.7 rebounds per game. He has hit 21 three pointers this season averaging 3.0 per contest. Robert Hatter adds 10.7 points per night with 4.9 rebounds. Stone Gettings rounds out Cornell players averaging double-figures, as he adds 10.4 points per game and 5.0 rebounds.
