Relay For Life of Sweetwater County Bank Night set for this Monday at MHSC

SWEETWATER COUNTY – As the local Relay For Life creeps closer, there is a pre-party planned for this Monday.

When Dr. Gordy Klatt took that first  24 hour walk in May of 1985 in Tacoma, Washington, little did he know it would become a worldwide phenomenon. That first walk, Klatt raised $27,000 to help the American Cancer Society fight cancer. A year later, Klatt had 340 supporters who joined the overnight event.

Since those first steps, the Relay For Life movement has grown into one of the biggest events worldwide. The event has raised nearly $5 billion to fight cancer since Klatt’s historic walk.

This year’s Relay For Life event is just around the corner as it will kick off at 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 20 at Western Wyoming Community College. A pre-party is set for Monday at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County.

The pre-party will start at 6 p.m. in the MHSC basement. The pre-party is mini celebration where participants  turn in the money they have made so far. It’s better known as Bank Night.

On the Relay For Life of Sweetwater County Facebook page, this is how Bank Night is described.

“What’s a better party? Food, showing off what you have accomplished up to date, the opportunity to get others excited and prepare for your on-site fundraiser the night of the event and it is to be apart of something much bigger in an effort to save the lives of so many!”
