Rock Springs Historical Museum prepares for Christmas Season

ROCK SPRINGS – As the holiday season is upon us all, one building quickly transforms into holiday central. The Rock Springs Historical Museum has wrapped up Halloween and is preparing for a big Christmas season.

This year, the Holiday Parade will take place on Pearl Harbor Day, Dec. 7. For years, residents have enjoyed cookies and hot chocolate which the Museum Board provides to cold hands and faces. With this year’s parade not handing out candy or other items on the route for safety reasons, the museum is looking to fill some of the void.

At the Tuesday meeting, the board discussed ordering more cookies this year than they have in the past. Last year, the board approved the purchase of 264 cookies. Museum Coordinator Bob Nelson said they would like to purchase 500 cookies. The cookies will not be store bought, they will be homemade.

The board approved to purchase the 500 cookies for $375. They also approved the purchase of cups and hot chocolate for approximately $126. The funds used for goodies come from contributions to the museum from the public and organizations.

The museum is also looking at opening the doors for the parade gatherers about 30 minutes before the start. Nelson will once again be announcing the parade over the public announcement system.

Memoir readings

Also coming to the museum is one of the most popular events, the memoir readings from a class Barbara Smith teaches about writing down memories. Ages vary from young adults to senior citizens. Stories in the past include WWII vets doing secret missions to personal family stories which will bring tears to your eyes.

All the members are asked to give a reading but they do not have to. There are just under 20 members in the class so the readings have been broken into two classes on Dec. 3 and Dec. 10 at 6 p.m. For further information residents can call the Rock Springs Historical Museum at 362-3138.

Rock Springs City Christmas Party

Nelson also gave a brief update on the city employee Christmas Party. He told the board that employees were planning it and the museum board did not have anything to do for the party.
