ROCK SPRINGS – Alcohol and malt beverage permits will dominate the Rock Springs City Council meeting on Tuesday.
Of the 10 new business items and two resolutions on Tuesday’s agenda, seven deal with requests for malt beverage and liquor catering permits for a variety of upcoming events.
At the top of the list is a request for MMA fights at the Sweetwater Events Complex. This request was tabled at the last council meeting after some concerns were raised by the Rock Springs Police Department. RSPD Chief Dwane Pacheco gave the council several concerns with the biggest being about security.
Events like the MMA event has to meet standards set by the state of Wyoming. Pacheco said organizers said they would have a plain clothed officer helping with the security, however, the name of this person had not been given to officials. The chief made it very clear the RSPD does not allow its officers to moonlight at events like this.
This is not the first event in the area promoted by Myers Corp. They have been doing Rocky Mountain MMA events in Pinedale and Rock Springs for the past several years.
The council tabled the motion until more information could be provided to the city. The event is scheduled for Aug. 29 at 6 p.m.
Other requests
The council will look at several other malt beverage and liquor catering permit requests on Tuesday.
The first is a request from Lew’s, Inc. for a liquor catering permit for the OCI Service Awards Banquet on Sept. 25. The permit will be good from 5 p.m. until midnight if approved.
