RS Council will look at request for reduction of fees at the Civic Center for special event; Parks Department also requesting permission to apply for grant to replace trees at Foothill Wetlands Park

ROCK SPRINGS – From volunteering for events to helping a neighbor, the residents of Rock Springs have always been willing to help. The Rock Springs City Council will look at a request from the family of Bobby Trujillo for a reduction of fees to the Civic Center for a special event.

Bobby Trujillo was diagnosed with ALS in December of 2013. In their request, the family  told the council that this month they were given a timeline and were told Trujillo only has six months or less to live.

The family is asking the council to consider reducing the fees and/or deposit for a special event on Feb. 21. The event will feature boxing matches provided by Rocks Boxing. In their letter to the council, the family explained Rocks Boxing is donating their time, their boxing ring and bringing in their own boxers for the event. It stresses in no way will Rocks Boxing benefit from the event.

Tickets will be sold for $20 the day of the benefit and also at the door that night. Food will also be served and is included in the price of the ticket. All money raised will go directly to Bobby Trujillo to help offset medical costs.

In their request, the family also stressed that no alcohol will be consumed or served at the event.

Grant request

The Rock Springs Council will also look at a request from the Rock Springs Parks and Recreation Department to apply for a Wyoming State Forestry Grant. In his request, Director Dave Lansang reported the grant will be used by the Parks Department for tree replacement in the Foothill Wetlands Park and possibly for other tree-related items.

The grant does not require any matching funds from the city.
