RS Planning and Zoning Commission informed about two minor projects

ROCK SPRINGS – It was a brief Rock Springs Planning and Zoning meeting Wednesday night as there were no major projects on the agenda.

There were two minor projects the commission was informed about. Due to the scope of the projects, they are approved at staff level. While they do not need a vote from the commission, staff informs them of every minor project.

The first minor site plan approval was from Multi-Chem. Assistant City Planner Brian Heaton informed the board the plan is for a 2,400 square foot storage tank containment slab which will be located at 1751 Blairtown Road.

The second was a conditional use permit for a 64 square foot freestanding electronic message board for My Place Hotel. This is the new hotel being built on the Gateway extension at 700 Gateway Blvd,

The board was also updated on action by Rock Springs City Council. City Planner Jennifer Shields said the biggest action at the most recent meeting was the proposed changes to the parking standards for hospitals and medical office buildings. Shields said there was a lot of good discussion from the council on the issue and Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County also addressed the council a couple of times during the process.

Shields said the council did approve dropping the standard for medical office buildings to 3.6 spaces per 1,000 square feet. However, she explained  the council removed the proposed language which would have given the Planning and Zoning Commission the power to reduce hospital and medical office building parking by 30 percent if the applicant could prove there is not a need for all the required parking.
