COACH’S CORNER
Q: Let’s talk a little bit about last season. What were you proud of? What did you wish went better?
Profaizer: “Of the athletes that completed the season in good standing, they worked really hard and throughout the season competed very well for the most part. What I wish would have went better is less injuries, which can only be prevented by kids hitting the weight room or competing in other sports to stay active year round. It’s just a simple fact, when you don’t stay in shape your muscles weaken. The other issues we were confronted with were grade issues and some disciplinary issues. When kids who are good can’t compete because of stuff like this it weakens us as a team overall.
Q: What are your initial thoughts about this upcoming season?
Profaizer: “I’ve learned over the years to not shoot myself in the foot by making predictions for the rest of the season. Right now we’re just going to focus on taking everything one day at a time and one meet at a time and try to make improvements each week. I think the only weakness we’re faced with right now is the issue with COVID-19.
Q: How do you compare against the competition in your conference?
Profaizer: “Kind of hard to tell right now since we haven’t had any competition and to be honest with you I’m not concerned about it right now. What we need to focus on is working on team unity and that comes from everyone. Kids, coaches, and especially parents. Us as coaches are going to play a major role as being an influence for their success, but more importantly it’s just as much the parents responsibility as it is ours. If we as adults don’t bond together for our athletic programs then the athletes are just going to feed off of that.”
Q: Any other thoughts you’d like to include?
Profaizer: “Nothing other than I’m excited for the season and thankful to the WHSAA for allowing us to compete amidst all the issues surrounding the coronavirus.”
