ROCK SPRINGS– The Sage Elementary third graders put on a musical performance today called, “Why Mosquitoes Buzz in People’s Ears,” under the direction of Wendy Compton, Sage Elementary music teacher.
The musical performance was based on a West African pourquoi, or “why” story. This story explained why those pesky mosquitoes buzz around people’s ears.
According to this pourquoi, one day a long time ago, a family of Agamas were cooling themselves in the shade of a berry bush when Mosquito decided to play a trick on them. That resulted in a terrible chain of events that ultimately explains why mosquitoes still buzz in people’s ears today.
The kids wore masks to represent their characters which included, Mosquito, Mother Sunbird, King Lion, Agamas, vipers, duikers, mandrills, and sunbirds.
The students took turns singing, playing xylophones and drums, dancing, and narrating the story.
