SWEETWATER COUNTY — Several nursing home residents in Rock Springs and Green River recently received surprise gifts as part of PEO Chapter L’s Santa for Seniors Project.

For the service project, members of Chapter L contacted local nursing homes to identify seniors to adopt. With the help of donations from PEO members and the community, items such as heated booties, toiletries, sugar-free candy, large print crossword puzzles, gloves and calendars were purchased and goodie bags were created.

Committee members then delivered the bags to lucky recipients at Deer Trail Assisted Living Center in Rock Springs and The Mission/Villa in Green River.

“The focus of this project was to provide holiday cheer to seniors who might not have received a present or visit during the holiday season,” said Allison Faure, one of the event organizers.  “It was wonderful to see how happy the recipients were when we delivered the gifts.”

The support of the local community was also instrumental in the success of the project, Faure said.  “We were able to purchase more items than we originally planned on because of the generous donations we received.”

Faure said the project would not have been as successful without the help of members of Eagles Aerie 151 of Rock Springs.  “I posted information about what we were doing on Facebook and they jumped in with a $300 donation.  It was amazing,” she said.

Chapter L members participating in the project were Faure, Carrie Williams, Amy Pierantoni and Joy Christian.  In addition, these members of the community took part in the project:  Alex and Sydney Shannon, Emmalee and Natalee Williams, Chris and Tay Audevart, Marianne Emden and Stephanie Mullen.
