ROCK SPRINGS — Sweetwater County School District (SCSD) No. 1 is reporting 45 new positive COVID-19 cases during the fifth week of school from September 13-16.
According to a ParentSquare COVID-19 update from SCSD No.1 Superintendent Kelly McGovern tonight, this is a decrease from the previous week.
So far, the total known positives for the 2021-2022 school year is 161 students and 28 staff. The district has 5,187 total students and 831 employees.
Below are the number of reported positive COVID-19 cases for the week of September 13-16:

“The District strongly encourages parents, students and staff to take the precautions they deem necessary for personal protection, including, staying home when sick, hand washing, masks, and vaccinations,” the message states.
“With our COVID numbers increasing in our area, parents please keep your kids home if they have symptoms,” the message says. “We realize that not everything is COVID, however one or more of these symptoms may suggest an infectious illness and the student should not attend school regardless of whether the illness is COVID-19.”
The district has provided a link for parents to decide if they should send their kids to school. There is a button to change it to Spanish as well.
The district is also encouraging families to participate in temporary virtual learning days if their student is unable to attend school in-person due to a COVID-19 case, isolation, or homebound situation. The state has approved Temporary Virtual Learning Days for districts. These can apply to COVID-19 cases, isolations, homebound situations, or even snow days.
