GREEN RIVER — The Sweetwater County School District No. 2 Board of Trustees elected a new chairman during its meeting Tuesday night due to the vacancy left by Rachelle Morris’s resignation announced on July 8.
Morris was serving as the board chair at the time of her resignation.
Trustee Steve Core was selected as the new board chair. Since he was previously serving as the vice chair, the board selected David Young to be the new vice chair. Young was serving as the clerk, so the board selected Tom Wilson to be the new clerk.
Morris’s resignation followed a complaint filed by Rock Springs Young at Heart Senior Center against her. She served as the former Executive Director, and Young at Heart’s complaint stated that Morris allegedly fraudulently established a limited liability company for the sole purpose of embezzling money from Young at Heart.
Core said that in light of these recent events, he wanted to make it clear to the community that the school board does not handle any money.
“The board does not handle any money. We oversee and approve budget and expenditures but we handle no money. So the call out there on social media to do an audit of the school district is ridiculous. We do that once a year, we’ll do it again next year,” Core said.
