ROCK SPRINGS – The Sweetwater Education Association will be hosting a Sweetwater County School District #1 Board of Trustee candidate forum on October 16, 2014. The forum will be held from 6:30-8:00 pm in the Rock Springs City Council Chambers. The forum will give candidates the opportunity to inform the public of their qualifications to serve as a Trustee for Sweetwater County School District #1.
“Voting tends to be down during mid-term elections, but it is our hope that voters will turn out to participate in these important local elections,” said SEA Vice President Jene Chollak. “The Board of Trustees is one of the most important ways that people can serve our local community,” Chollak continued, “we hope that this forum gives people an opportunity to learn about those who are willing to take on this responsibility for our children.”
Senator Bernadine Craft has agreed to act as the moderator for the evening. The City of Rock Springs will also record and broadcast the event as well. The format for the evening will give each candidate an opportunity to educate the voters of Sweetwater County School District #1. Each candidate will be given three minutes to tell the voters who they are and why they are running.
The moderator will ask questions directed to all candidates and will pick the candidate (through a pre-determined method) who will answer first, then more from right to left giving each candidate an opportunity to respond. Each candidate will have two minutes to answer the question or state his/her position on the issue.
If time allows, questions will be taken from the audience. The audience will be asked to keep their questions general and not point them toward any particular candidate. The number of questions will be based on the time remaining. Each candidate will then have three minutes to make closing statements.
