Sheriff’s Office Recognized by Veterans’ Awareness Group

SWEETWATER COUNTY — Sheriff Mike Lowell accepted a special appreciation certificate from the National Veterans Awareness Ride on Thursday on behalf of the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office.

The NVAR is a ten-day motorcycle ride across the United States extending from Sacramento, California, to Washington DC.

Along the route riders visit veterans’ hospitals and homes to express their appreciation, speak at schools about patriotism and the importance of veterans and their service, and take part in memorial services honoring military personnel who paid the ultimate price for the freedom we all enjoy.

When the riders arrive in Washington DC, they place a special memorial wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns at nearby Arlington National Cemetery.

Lowell said when this year’s 60-odd riders – who came from all across the nation to participate – passed through Sweetwater County on May 18th, deputies provided them an escort from Little America to Rock Springs.
