SWCSD No. 1 parents receive valuable tool to support student achievement

ROCK SPRINGS – Parents of Kindergarten through sixth grade students in Sweetwater County School District no. 1 received a valuable new tool to support student achievement. They received a handbook this fall at their Parent Teacher Conference.

The purpose of the handbook is to provide parents with essential expectations and standards to assist in overall student achievement. The content of the handbook provides a break down of what the student should be learning in the first nine weeks, second nine weeks, third nine weeks etc.

What My Student is Learning- Check Point Progress breaks down the standards for English Language Arts and Mathematics for each individual grade level.

Tammy Macy, Curriculum & Assessment Specialist K-6th grade, stated, “This is a valuable tool and can help inform and involve parents in their student’s education and our hope is that parents become familiar with this resource.”

The grading clarification of what a “4,3,2,1” means, which will be on the report cards, is fully explained in the handbook as well as assessment goals, valuable resources and calendars. The first quarter of the 2014-2015 school year ended Friday October 31st and report cards will be going out. This new communication tool for Parents can be fully implemented in conjunction with the report cards, right away.

The handbook was created by a committee compiled of three grade level representatives from each grade and was facilitated through School District Elementary Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Specialist, Tammy Macy.
