ROCK SPRINGS – A press release issued by Sweetwater County School District No. 1 is warning parents of a new trend circulating among the youth.
The release reads:
Sweetwater School District No. 1 is focused on the safety and well-being of our students. We want to make you aware of a new trend some students may be doing called the ‘Sharpie Shock Challenge’. You can search this on the internet and see the video if interested.
Essentially, students are using a dark marker to color a square on their wrist or other parts of their body and then using a camera flash on their phones to ‘shock’ themselves. The shock is not a shock but instead may be a burning of their skin. Repeated exposure could cause damage to the skin.
The District is addressing this concern with students and is sharing this information with families as a precautionary measure for the safety of all students.
Together, we make a difference.
