SWEETWATER COUNTY – After changes to the SkyWest service are being discussed at the state level, Sweetwater County Commissioner John Kolb have suggested Wyoming Department of Transportation Aeronautics Division make a presentation to them.
At the Rock Springs/Sweetwater County Airport meeting, Board Chairman Larry Leavitt said they have heard about a proposal to change the SkyWest service, which would increase the cost of the contract. Leavitt did not want to go into specifics because he said there is a lot of confusion about exactly what is going on.
Sweetwater County Commissioner John Kolb, who is also the liaison to the airport board, explained they have suggested to division to come before them and make a presentation on what the changes to the contract are. He said they have tentatively agreed to do this at the commissioners first meeting in June.
“It is very preliminary, but we could see a change in our air enhancement service,” Kolb said.
The current contract with SkyWest is between them, the state of Wyoming and Sweetwater County. From there, a memorandum of understanding is in place with the county and the two cities on the funding between the three entities. Kolb said the commissioners have been in contact with the state who did have numbers but have not analyzed them yet.
