SWEETWATER COUNTY – Three young residents of Sweetwater County were honored on Tuesday for their hard work in life and in their schooling.
The Sweetwater County Commissioners honored three students with $1,000 scholarships. Garrett David Young was picked from Green River, while Haley Powell and Jordan Brooks from Rock Springs received the honor.
The commissioners broke into a 20 minute executive session to discuss who they would award the scholarships to. Chairman Wally Johnson said he did not believe it was really executive session material, but there were many deserving candidates and he did not want something to accidentally be said which would cast a dark shadow on any of the students.
Johnson said they had a list of outstanding candidates, any one of which could easily have been selected for the scholarship.
Young currently carries a 4.0 and scored a 30 on his ACT. Powell also has a 4.0 with a score of 29 on her ACT while Brooks currently has a 3.79 and also scored 29 on her ACT.
Johnson said these young people need to be recognized for all their achievements and hard work and this scholarship comes from everyone in Sweetwater County.
