Sweetwater One Public School Foundation to host wine and beer tasting to benefit Kari’s Access Award fund

ROCK SPRINGS – Maybe it’s tasting a unique wine or sharing a laugh would good company. Or maybe it is the importance of supporting a program which has provided opportunities for the students in Sweetwater County School District No. 1 for many years.

On Saturday, the Sweetwater One Public School Foundation will be having a wine and beer tasting at the Holiday Inn on Sunset Drive. The event will start at 6 p.m. and will run until 9 p.m. Executive Assistant Teri Hansen explained they have approximately 80 different wines and about eight different beers. Along with the tasting, they will be serving high-end hors d’oeuvres and cheese.

No one under the age of 21 is allowed in the event.

Residents can get tickets at Johnny Mac’s, Marty’s or by calling the Sweetwater One Public School Foundation at 362-2554.

All money raised will go to the Kari’s Access Award fund. The Kari’s Access Award was the first award set up just after the foundation came into existence. The money for the program came from Larry Fusselman who created the fund to help students in the district to honor his late daughter Kari Fusselman who passed away in a car accident.

The fund is to help students in District No. 1 in activities which are outside the normal school day. In the past years, it has helped pay soccer dues, provide money for students to attend musical opportunities, has helped purchase computers and in one case provided horseback riding lessons.

“It helps students who have financial or health restraints and gives them opportunities they wouldn’t otherwise have,” Hansen said.

Since its inception, Kari’s Access Award has helped over 160 students in Sweetwater County School District No. 1. All money raised at the wine tasting event will go to this award fund.
