ROCK SPRINGS – Coming from West Jordan, Utah, and bringing a load of experience MKenzie Safford will look to make a difference this year when the Western Wyoming Community College Women’s Soccer team hits the field for the 2015-2016 season.

Safford is a 2015 graduate from Copper Hills High in West Jordan UT.

MKenzie brings a wealth of experience to the Mustangs. She played club soccer with the Utah Avalanche in Salt Lake and many tournaments and matches with her club team. The latest club level was with the Utah Avalanche 97 Black.  She was a captain of her club team five different times.

While a member of the Lady Grizzlies at CHHS, MKenzie was a four year starter and a four year letter winner.  After her freshman season she was named the most inspirational player on the CHHS team.  In 2012, her sophomore year she was a Second Team All Region player.  Her last two years for her high school team she was a First Team All Region Player (2013 and 2014).

“Academically she will fit in great at Western as she consistently was a member of the CHHS honor roll,” Head Coach Jeff Atkinson said about Safford who plans on studying criminal justice.  “We expect the same out of her at WWCC.”

Safford can play either as a midfielder or a defender.  Atkinson said she likely feels the most comfortable as a center mid and a center back.

“However, we know that she is a great soccer player and can play where ever the team needs her skills,” Atkinson said.
