While they have their eye on the prize, the captains of the TRDT are ready to lead this family into battle. Kenzie Skiles said she looks forward to having all their hard work pay off at state while Bailey Cowan is hopeful they will come together when the time is right.

“Motivation to improve and to be united,” is what Cowan said the team is focused on.

The dance team had two girls named All-State this season. Haley Sains and Breezy Mathis earned top honors this year. Sophomore Breezy Mathis has been dancing since she was three-years-old and said receiving the award was special for her. Junior Haley Sains, who has been dancing since she was four-years-old, was also excited to receive the honor.

“It has always been a goal of mine,” the dancer said.

Coach Laura Doak said she is hoping for a “positive and amazing learning experience” at this year’s competition. Doak is also hopeful the girls remain humble but of course, they want a championship.

“I think that this season for cheer has been very successful considering we have gotten a new coach and have had many changes through out the year. My hopes for state is that we push ourselves to do our best and place higher than last year. Also since we’ve recently had some injuries and had to change our routine that we all stay healthy and without further injuries. Our coaches and team have worked hard and are very excited to perform!”

Coach Kimi Seymour is also excited.

“We are excited to perform,” Coach Seymour said. “We’ve had a lot of obstacles this season including members who have moved, deaths in families and injuries. We had to ask the State Athletic Commission to move from a “Stunt” routine to a “Non-Stunt” routine. Our goal is to perform to the best of our ability while representing RSHS well. We plan to make the most of the moment!”
