ROCK SPRINGS – The indoor track season is heading into the final stretch as teams will head to Gillette this weekend for the Championships. Both the Rock Springs Tigers and Green River Wolves had solid finishes at the Wyoming Invite in a tune-up for the finals.

Laramie and Cheyenne Central pulled away from the field as the Plainsman scored 163.33 to take the Wyoming Invitational team title. Central was right behind with 153.66. The Tigers battled to a third-place finish scoring 50 points while Cheyenne South and Cheyenne East rounded out the top five.

Individually, the Tigers had strong finishes with one individual title. After taking an individual title at the Simplot Games, Carlos Salcido followed it up at the Wyoming Invite with a title in the 55-meter dash. The Tigers also had success in the relays with two team titles. The 4×200 team of Chandler Cork, Josh Rawson, Doug O’Brocto and Michael Brightly crossed the line in first. Cork, Rawson and Salcido were joined by Preston Portillo in the 4×400 and they also brought home gold for the Tigers.

Not only did Portillo help the 4×400 team take first, he also had a top five in the 400 meters coming in fourth. In the 800, the Tigers had two top-ten finishes led by Joe Depoyster, who finished seventh. He was followed closely by teammate Clay Goich, who crossed the line in ninth.

To round out the top ten finishes in the running events Koltin Legerski and Trent Rasmussen finished eighth and ninth respectively in the 55-meter hurdles.

The Tigers had several strong performances in field events at the invite. In the throwing events, Jesse and Anthony Diaz led the way. In the weight throw, Jesse finished in second place while Anthony was right behind in third place. Jesse also had a top ten in the shot put coming in ninth.

In the high jump, Josh Rawson finished in fifth place while Michael Brightly ended up in seventh in the long jump. Both just missed top tens in the triple jump as Brightly finished 12th and Rawson followed in 13th.

Green River Wolves

As a team, the Green River Wolves scored 22 points for an eighth-place finish. Individually, several Wolves were among the ten best in several events.

Green River’s strongest finishes came in the field events. Matt Medina led the way in the throwing events as he finished fifth in the weight throw and followed it with a seventh-place finish in the shot.

Tyler Vendetti led a strong Wolves performance in the long jump with a fourth place finish. Both Riley Yeager and Trey McGhee just missed top-ten finishes in the long jump as Yeager finished 11th and McGhee came in 13th. Vendetti also jumped to a top ten in the triple jump coming in seventh. Tommy Kelly led the way in the high jump with a sixth-place finish.

Vendetti was not only strong in the field events but had the top finish for Green River in the running events. Vendetti finished fifth in the 55-meter hurdles. Other top finishes in the running events from the Wolves included Trey McGhee, who finished eighth in the 800 while Shawn McGuire and Curtis Westenskow just missed top tens. McGuire finished 11th in the 400 meters while Westenskow came in 12th in the 1600 meters.
