CHEYENNE – Motorists traveling in Wyoming during the long Labor Day Holiday weekend will see extra vigilance by State Troopers on our roads. The Wyoming Highway Patrol will be stepping up enforcement efforts with more Troopers who will be working overtime.
On August 30th and 31st, the Wyoming Highway Patrol will be participating in a DUI Task Force with the Cheyenne Police Department, the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office and the Wyoming State Parks Law Enforcement.
These dates coincide with the Labor Day Holiday and the temptation of drinking and driving because of the long weekend. Local law enforcement will be targeting impaired driving in the Cheyenne metro area during the hours of 10:00 PM to 3:00 AM.
Statewide, Wyoming’s fatality count is down 28.75% compared to this same time last year. However, of the fatalities this year in 2013, 22.2% (12) were alcohol/drug related and 55.56% (30) of all of the fatalities were not properly restrained.
The Wyoming Highway Patrol would like to remind travelers to slow down, buckle up and drive safely. These holiday safety operations are designed to enhance public safety of the motoring public. As part of this effort to increase community safety, we will be utilizing Federal DUI grant funding secured by WYDOT’s Highway Safety Branch.
