ROCK SPRINGS – With school still a few weeks out, athletic teams in Rock Springs are already getting ready for the new season.
This year, schools in Sweetwater County School District No. 1 will get started Aug. 31. What many people may not realize is sports usually start before. Rock Springs Volleyball gets started soon.
New Head Lady Tiger Volleyball Coach Stephanie Hardesty said tryouts for RSHS Volleyball will start Aug. 17 at the high school. Those freshman through seniors interested in playing will need to be at the high school at 9 a.m.
Tryouts will take place on Aug. 17 and Aug. 18 from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and again from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. On Aug. 19-20, tryouts will continue from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and again from 4 a.m. to 6 p.m. Hardesty said they hope to have the team posted by Thursday.
The Lady Tigers get the season started on Aug. 28 as they travel to Cheyenne for the McDonald’s Classic.
Shawna Willmore said Junior High Volleyball tryouts are as followed. Seventh grade tryouts will be Aug. 24-28 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Rock Springs Junior High gym. Eighth grade tryouts will start Monday, Aug. 24 with a parent meeting at 5:30 p.m. at the Rock Springs Junior High. Emergency cards will be filled out at this time.
Willmore said every player will need an emergency card in order to tryout.
On Aug. 25, tryouts begin at 4:30 p.m. and run until 6:15 p.m. Times will be the same on Aug. 26-28. Team selections should be posted Monday, Aug. 31 which will be the first day of practice.
