DUTCH JOHN — Since Sunday June 8th two fires have started on the Ashley National Forest.

The Tri Peak fire was reported the afternoon of June 8th and is approximately two –tenths of an acre in size and burning in Douglas fir and spruce. The lightning caused fire is approximately 1.5 miles northeast of Lodgepole Campground, 8 miles southwest of Dutch John, Utah between Cart Creek and Greens Draw, on the Vernal Ranger District of the Ashley National Forest.

The Pipe Creek Fire was reported the afternoon of June 9th and is about a quarter acre in size approximately 2.5 miles south of Dutch John, Utah, south of the Green River on the east side of Pipe Creek draw. The cause of this fire is currently under investigation. Presently, no closures are in effect. Smoke from the fires may be visible from U.S. Hwy 191.

Currently, there are approximately 10 firefighters assigned to the Tri Peak Fire. There are four firefighters assigned to the Pipe Creek Fire.
