CHEYENNE– Governor Mark Gordon addressed the fate of the American Legion and little league baseball season in his press conference Thursday. The short answer is, whether the season will be able to go ahead or not is still unknown.
The American Legion Baseball Commissioner, Cody Beers, said teams cannot start practicing or schedule games until they receive the go-ahead from the governor.
However, Dr. Alexia Harrist, State Public Health Officer, said baseball and other sporting events fall under the gathering category, which is still restricted to less than 10 people to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 Coronavirus.
Dr. Harrist said she is still concerned about allowing gatherings because of the number of people who could be impacted by the virus.
The state will continue looking closely at COVID-19 data to make “thoughtful, measured, and data-driven” decisions “closer to that time period,” Dr. Harrist said.
