Wolves Win Thriller Tuesday Night

GREEN RIVER – For most of the game, the Green Rivers Wolves struggled to put the ball in the net. However, two late goals proved to be the difference.

The Wolves entered Tuesday’s game 1-0-1 in conference play while Natrona came in 3-1 and second in the conference standings. Natrona controlled the pace and took an early 1-0 lead scoring ten minutes into the game. Green River had several strong attacks but struggled to get a good look at the goal for most of the first half. The Wolves best opportunity came with five minutes left in the first half. Gregory Marchal sent a free kick just high as the Mustangs took the 1-0 lead at the break.

The Wolves came out of the break aggressive on the offensive end but continued to struggle to get good looks at the net. Halfway through the second, Green River had another shot at tying the game on a corner kick but Chase Stoeger’s header attempt missed just right,

On the other side, Patrick Marchal had several key saves to keep the Wolves in the match. Finally, with 10 minutes left, Green River was able to break through. Chase Stoeger blasted a shot that found the back of the net evening the game.

It looked as if it was going to go into overtime but the Wolves made one last push. With three minutes left, Eliel Ibarra found Christian Alatorre for the go-ahead goal. The Wolves kept the Mustangs off the board for the final minutes to hold on for the conference win.

With the win, the Wolves remained perfect in conference play moving to 2-0-1 while Natrona drops to 3-2. Green River has a week off before hitting the road for another conference matchup against Jackson on April 18.
