Wyoming Miners Hospital Board Announces Free Black Lung Screening for Coal Miners

ROCK SPRINGS – Coal has been a part of Sweetwater County’s history since the beginning. The Wyoming Miners Hospital Board has announced free black lung screenings for area coal miners.

The black lung screening NIOSH’s Mobile Occupational Safety and Health Unit will be in the area soon to conduct black lung screenings. All coal miners are encouraged to stop by the mobile and participate in this free health exam.

Typically, testing takes about 30 minutes and includes a short questionnaire, a chest radiograph and a spirometry (breathing) test. Blood pressure screening will also be available. Although walk-ins will be accepted, miners are urged to call 1-888-480-4042 to schedule an appointment.

On Monday, July 13, from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., the unit will be at Kemmerer Mine Westmoreland Coal Co. located at 6520 Elkol County Road 304 in Kemmerer.

On July 14-15 the unit will be at Jim Bridger Surface Mine Bridger Coal Co. located at 932 9-mile Road in Point of Rocks. Times for both days will be 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
