Wyoming Starts MW Meet with Multi-Events

CLOVIS, Calif. – Senior Kyle Sullivan sits fifth in the men’s decathlon after Wednesday’s first day of the 2016 Mountain West Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

The 2014 conference champion of the event amassed 3,638 points through five events at Veterans Memorial Stadium, while fellow Cowboy Caleb Seeton is sixth in the decathlon and Cowgirl Clare Nicolas in 15th in the women’s heptathlon.

Sullivan sits 114 points shy of second place after a day that was solid, but featured no personal bests. The Powell, Wyo., native opened with an 11.30 in the 100 meters, followed with a mark of 22-0 1/4 in the long jump and notched a throw of 40-8 3/4 in the shot put. He concluded the day clearing 6-2 3/4 in the high jump and running 51.39 in the 400 meters.

Seeton meanwhile tallied four personal bests on the day for 3,598 points. The junior ran 11.28 in the 100 meters, tied a personal-best 22-4 1/2 in the long jump, threw a personal-best 41-5 in the shot put, cleared a personal-best 6-2 3/4 in the high jump and ran a personal-best 53.27 in the 400 meters.

Nicolas earned 2,620 points in the first four events of the heptathlon. She ran 16.08 in the 100-meter hurdles, jumped 4-9 1/2 in the high jump, threw 34-8 1/2 in the shot put and ran 26.29 in the 200 meters.

The final five events of the decathlon begin Thursday at 5 p.m. MT with the 110-meter hurdles, while the last three events of the heptathlon start with the long jump at 5:30 p.m. The 10,000 meters will also be run tomorrow beginning at 9:15 p.m.
