LARAMIE– Wyoming junior defensive tackle Youhanna Ghaifan was named to the 2018 Outland Trophy Watch List on Tuesday.
The Outland Trophy is for the first time being presented by the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases (NFID). The Outland Trophy honors the top interior lineman in the country. A total of 82 players were named to the 2018 watch list.
This is the first year of a partnership with the NFID to present the Outland Trophy as part of a public awareness campaign focused on the importance of influenza (flu) prevention during the 2018-19 flu season.
The award will continue to be selected by the FWAA membership and has been rebranded as the Outland Trophy presented by the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases with a social media hashtag of #FightFlu.
Ghaifan ranked No. 1 in the Mountain West and No. 23 nationally in tackles for loss (1.29 per game/15.5 total) in 2017 as a sophomore.
He also ranked No. 4 in the league in sacks (0.73 per game/7.0 total) and No. 43 in the nation. Ghaifan was second among all MW defensive linemen in tackles (5.9 tackles per game) in 2017.
