City Approves Two Upcoming Events

ROCK SPRINGS – Two upcoming events in Rock Springs received approval from the Rock Springs City Council Tuesday night.

The first approval was a contract with Letters Aloud LLC for an event at the Broadway Theater on Feb. 12. Performers will read letters out loud which include letters of loving, longing and leaving. Theater Board Member Katie Pastor explained letters from a few famous people would also be part of the program.

The performance last approximately two hours, consisting of two 45 to 50-minute acts with one intermission. It gets underway at 7 p.m.

In the contract, the city will pay Letters Aloud LLC., a flat rate of $3,500. They will also provide lodging which includes five, single rooms for one night and one hot meal on performance night.

Councilman Jason Armstrong has consistently voted against these contracts between the city and performing organizations. He has said he does not believe the city should be in the theater business, and voting against these contacts is a way for him to protect local small business. Councilman David Tate was absent from the vote.

Alcohol Permit

The council unanimously approved a liquor catering permit for the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation Banquet. The banquet is on Feb. 13 at the Sweetwater Events Complex. The permit is good from 6 p.m. to midnight.
