This year’s race will take place May 21-22. Last year’s event attracted a little over 100 riders but was plagued with bad weather. However, a few changes this year has the group optimistic.

Last year, there were several qualifiers in the region including a major race at Miller Sports Park in Utah. With the park’s future uncertain, the qualifier in Rock Springs in one of only two in the region this spring. The other is in Colorado.

Smith also reported this year’s race is taking place a couple of weeks later than the one last year and they are again hopeful this will give them better odds on good weather this year.

With the loss of other regional races, Smith said he is hoping to attract 200 to 250 riders to the complex. He said even with the challenges last year, they still had riders from all over the nation make the trek to Rock Springs and are anticipating many will be back.

As for the current season, the arena cross season will continue this weekend. There will be an open practice on Friday with full days of racing set for both Saturday and Sunday.

The final indoor race will take place on Easter weekend. Smith said they will have a full day of racing on Saturday and then are planning several fun races on Sunday.
