307 Spartans Earn Trip to Pacific Northwest Babe Ruth Tournament

ROCK SPRINGS — A strong season and state tournament landed the 307 Spartans U18 Senior Babe Ruth baseball club a trip to the Pacific Northwest Regional Tournament beginning Monday.

The tournament will be played in Klamath Falls, OR from July 18-24. Manager Mike Walker said the team competed hard and played well all season compiling a 24-6 record heading into the state tournament.

Highlights included a 4-1 record in the Mother’s Day weekend tournament hosted by Lander, and an outstanding showing at the state tournament which also took place in Lander.

The Spartans defeated Casper 12-9, Lander 22-7, and Glenrock 17-0 to earn the top seed at the tournament. They lost a hard-fought 9-8 title game to Cheyenne, but their overall 27-7 record earned the team an invitation to the regional tournament in Klamath.

Along the way Chase Shelley received the “Heart of the Babe” award for displaying true grit and never-give-up attitude on the diamond. The Spartans also won the 2022 Deb Larkins Sportsmanship Award that was voted on by the coaches throughout Wyoming Senior Babe Ruth.

The team will compete in the Pacific Northwest Regional Tournament from July 18-24.
