Stop by TacoTime for a 99¢ Waldo!

What is a “Waldo”?

The famous crisp bean burrito at TacoTime has been called the “Waldo” by many locals for many years. We had to get to the bottom of this mystery so we sat down with the local owners and here is what they said.

While managing one of the local stores in Rock Springs, owner Lee Staley’s  staff kept confusing the meat burrito and the bean burrito in the kitchen. In order to improve the accuracy of orders, they named the bean burrito “Waldo” because Where’s Waldo was a popular culture icon at the time.

It is amazing how similar ‘meat’ and ‘bean’ sound through the drive-thru speaker or even in a noisy kitchen when being called back to the kitchen staff. Remember, if you want bean, just ask for a Waldo!

Why do they call the crisp burritos back to the kitchen when you order? Well, it’s because it takes a minimum of three minutes to cook a crisp burrito at TacoTime to golden perfection. Creating fresh food is important at TacoTime, read more about that here.

The four varieties of crisp burritos: the meat, bean, chicken, and Juan, are all hand rolled in our restaurants every morning. We make the mixes each morning and then portion accordingly and roll tightly into a log shape. A typical batch of bean mix will make 120 burritos.
