ROCK SPRINGS – The Rock Springs Motocross Club is hosting the Loretta Lynn Mid-West Area Qualifier this weekend May 20-22 at the Sweetwater Events Complex Motocross Track.
The event will begin on Friday, May 20 at 10 am with an open practice for $25 per rider. Registration will begin on Friday at 4 pm and racing will begin on Saturday at 8 am. The race is open to all participants that are wanting to race, including those not wanting to attempt to qualify for the Loretta. American Motocross Association (AMA) membership is required.
The Rock Springs Motocross Club is in the second year of hosting the Mid-West Area Qualifier and is one of five locations selected for the event. Rock Springs is the only eastern event in the region. Motocross riders travel from Utah, Idaho, Nevada, Montana, Wyoming and Colorado looking to advance to Regionals and then Nationals. Wes Smith, Rock Springs Motocross President, explained, “Last year, even with bad weather, we had around 130 riders. We had people travel from Utah, Colorado, Idaho as well as Tennessee, Oklahoma and North Carolina. This year we are hoping to have around 200+ riders.”
Smith also explained that Area Qualifiers often bring riders from various regions looking to qualify. He stated, “Often times riders will compete at several area qualifiers hoping to advance. The qualifiers allow racers to come from all over the United States hoping to move on to the next round.”
The Loretta Lynn Mid-West Area Qualifier is the first summer race of 2016. Additional Motocross events include Motocross Practice and Play Event June 24-26, HPMA Motocross Series July 29-31 and the Wild West Motocross Series August 26-28.
