ROCK SPRINGS – Coming off a silver bracket win at the Thoman Soda Ash Invite this past weekend, the Rock Springs Tigers returned home on Wednesday. Despite a strong effort, the Tigers came up short to conference opponentĀ Evanston.
“It was not our best night,” head coach Brad Profaizer said after the match. “We had some key matches that didn’t go ourĀ way. Evanston has got some tough kids on their team. The cards were just not in our favor tonight.”
Trevor Allred scored a techincal fall to start the match off on the right foot for the Tigers. After a debated loss at 120, Ashton Dupape scored a win by fall to get Rock Springs back on track. The Tigers dropped the next two and Tristan Profaizer came up short in a close decision.
After the match, Coach Profaizer spoke about the strong wins by Wyatt Yenney and Thomas Rezzonico at 152 and 160. He also pointed to the match at 170. Brayden Stassinos battled Isaiah Sowers, who is currently ranked second in the state. Coach Profaizer said even through Stassinos lost the matchĀ if he cleans up a couple of small things he will be right there at regionals and state.
T.J. McNeil scored a solid 4-2 decision win at 182 and Zach Vasquez closed the match with a win by fall in 41 seconds but two open weight classes at 220 and 285 hurt the Tigers in the end.
At 132, Trevor Ryan hurt his wrist and thumb costing him the match. Profaizer said they are unsure if it is just dislocated or if it is broken and are hopeful to have more information on the injury Thursday.
The Tigers travel to Lander for a weekend tournament before heading to the conference duals the following weekend. They are heading into the home stretch and Coach said all the technique and skills are there, it’s time to put everything together.
