ROCK SPRINGS — BP today announced the winners of the BP Wamsutter Energy Scholarship Program, a new effort to develop the next generation of energy professionals in Wyoming.
The six winners, all from high schools in the Rock Springs and Rawlins area, are the first to receive the scholarships in the inaugural year of the program.
Each award is valued up to $10,000 and will be applied toward college scholarships for students attending the University of Wyoming or an accredited community college or trade school in Wyoming.
“BP is proud to honor the 2014 recipients of this exciting new scholarship program,” said Tom Robinson, onshore site manager for BP’s Wamsutter Operations Center. “We are doubly honored to be playing a small part in developing the next generation of energy leaders for Wyoming and for the United States.”
The awardees include:
Nicholas Blume is a resident of Rock Springs and is a 2014 graduate of Rock Springs High School. He was a member of the National Honor Society and captain of the football team. He intends to major in engineering at the University of Wyoming.
Luke Bonner is a resident of Rock Springs and is a 2014 graduate of Rock Springs High School. He has been an active volunteer with the Boys & Girls Club and the Young at Heart Senior Center. He intends to major in engineering at Western Wyoming Community College.
Jordan Brooks is a resident of Rock Springs and a 2014 graduate of Rock Springs High School. She was a member of the National Honor Society. She lettered on the varsity swim team and has been a member of the Wyoming High School All State Marching Band. She intends to major in chemical engineering at the University of Wyoming.
Samuel Lewman is a resident of Rawlins and is a 2014 graduate of Rawlins High School. Samuel has been active with the Boys & Girls Club and has varsity letters in both wrestling and track. He intends to major in engineering at Casper Community College.
Angelic Ruby is a resident of Superior and is a 2014 graduate of Rock Springs High School. She is an Honor Roll student and is an active volunteer with Superior Events Committee and People For Kids. Angelic intends to major in Oil and Gas Production Technology at Western Wyoming Community College.
Cameron Weishoff is a resident of Rawlins and a 2014 graduate of Rawlins High School. Cameron is an Honor Roll student. He was employed at a local grocery store and enjoys playing hockey in the community. He intends to major in mechanical engineering at the University of Wyoming.
The selection committee was comprised of BP employees Jim Caldwell, Brock Martin and Cindy DeLancey; Rep. Jerry Paxton (HD47); Rep. John Freeman (HD60); and Niki Ready, vice president of Ready Oilfield Services, Inc.
