GREEN RIVER — The Green River Wolves will return home Friday looking to keep their perfect start to the season intact when they host the Douglas Bearcats in their Hall of Fame game.
Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m., with TRN Media’s pregame coverage beginning at 5 p.m. TRN Media’s Jayson Klepper is filling in for Erick Pauley and will have the call. Fans can listen on 104.9 FM or 1490 AM KUGR, or watch the free live HD video stream on The Radio Network’s Facebook page.
Green River is 2-0 for the first time since 2017 after wins over Rawlins and Buffalo. Douglas enters the matchup at 0-2 after a pair of difficult losses to open the season, falling 37-6 to Evanston before being shut out 64-0 by Cody.
The Bearcats have yet to score an offensive touchdown this season. Their only points came against Evanston when Chance Harting recovered a fumble for a defensive touchdown.
Green River enters Friday’s matchup ranked among the top offensive and defensive teams in Class 3A. The Wolves are averaging 163 rushing yards per game, which ranks fourth in the classification, while averaging 90 passing yards per game. Douglas is averaging 93 passing yards per game, which ranks eighth in 3A.
The biggest difference has come on the defensive side for Green River. Under defensive coordinator Braeden Walk, Brennan Walk’s brother, the Wolves enter the game with the top-ranked rushing defense and fifth-ranked passing defense in 3A, giving them the classification’s No. 1 total defense.
Green River has allowed an average of just 44 rushing yards per game and 126 passing yards per game through its first two contests. The Wolves have surrendered only one touchdown while creating multiple turnovers in each game and adding a safety in last week’s 21-13 victory over Buffalo.
The defensive success is part of a strong start for a Green River program that is playing its first season under head coach Brennan Walk. The Wolves have found contributions from both sides of the ball while putting together their first 2-0 start in nine years.
Quarterback Brylan Ginestar has made both starts this season, including his second career start in last week’s win at Buffalo. He completed 8 of 17 passes for 108 yards and a touchdown against the Bison while also rushing for 31 yards. Quintin Brown has continued to lead the Green River ground game, and the Wolves have also received production from players such as Hayden Smith, Noah Hemphill and Irie Kuball.
Douglas, meanwhile, will look to generate more offensive consistency after being held to six points in its first two games. The Bearcats will face a Green River defense that has allowed opposing offenses very little room to establish the run and has consistently created opportunities for turnovers.
Friday’s Hall of Fame game will give the Wolves a chance to continue their undefeated start while Douglas looks to put its first points on the board offensively and earn its first victory of the season.
