Accident on I-80 at Mile Post 155 Claims Life Wednesday Morning; SLC Man Facing Manslaughter Charges

SWEETWATER COUNTY — A fatal crash has claimed the life of 32 year old Aleksandr Kozak of Sacramento, California. The crash occurred on April 22nd at 8:57 a.m. near mile post 155 on Interstate 80 westbound approximately 19 miles west of Wamsutter, Wyoming.

Mr. Kozak was working on a disabled truck in the emergency lane of Interstate 80 westbound at the time of the crash with warning triangles displayed to the rear of the vehicle visible to oncoming traffic for three-quarters of one mile. An approaching 2011 Freightliner commercial vehicle driven by 48 year old Edward C. Barrowes of Salt Lake City, Utah, left the travel lane and crossed onto the shoulder of the road and struck Mr. Kozak. Mr. Kozak sustained fatal injuries on scene from the crash.
Driving while fatigued is being investigated as the contributing factor in this crash. Mr. Barrowes has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, improper lane use and driving while ill or fatigued. The crash did cause a temporary closure of the westbound side of the highway for approximately two hours.

SWEETWATER COUNTY — SweetwaterNOW.com has learned that one person was killed in an accident Wednesday morning near mile post 155 on Interstate 80. Witness reports are preliminary, the accident occurred around 9 a.m. and involved a truck striking and killing a person that was standing near two rigs that were parked on the side of the interstate, broke down with mechanical problems.

Edward Christopher Barrowes

 

A Salt Lake City man identified in the Jail Roster as Edward Christopher Barrowes, 48 was charged with alleged involuntary manslaughter and driving while ill or fatigued and booked into the Sweetwater County Detention Center at 2:49:44 p.m. by the Wyoming Highway Patrol.
