POCATELLO, Idaho – Idaho State University and Director of Athletics Jeff Tingey have announced that Rick Reynolds has been named the head coach of the volleyball program. He will be the ninth head coach in ISU history.
Reynolds comes to ISU after an illustrious career at Western Wyoming Community College. Since 2008 he has led the Mustangs to a top 10 national ranking including a birth into the NJCAA Championship match in 2011.
“I am excited to join the Bengal family,” Reynolds said. “I want to thank Jeff Tingey, the senior staff and the search committee for the opportunity to lead the Bengal Volleyball program. My family and I look forward to being part of the Pocatello community.”
Reynolds recorded a 197-87 overall record and 77-15 record in region play at WWCC as well as helping land 29 players on the All-Region IX team. He was named the Region IX Coach of the Year three different times and the NJCAA District I Coach of the Year twice.
“We are looking forward to what Coach Reynolds will bring to our program,” Director of Athletics Jeff Tingey said. “He is a very impressive coach on the court and a great leader for our team.”
Prior to coaching at Western Wyoming he spent time as an assistant coach at University of North Carolina Wilmington (2004-07), head coach and assistant coach at Colorado Northwestern Community College (2002-04). He also helped lead multiple club programs and national travel teams.
“Idaho State is a great university with high academic standards and a great culture. I will look to build on that as we pursue excellence on and off the court,” Reynolds said.
The Bengals are the reigning Big Sky regular season champions after finishing last season with a 15-1 mark in conference play. Idaho State returns multiple players from last season’s squad including conference MVP Tressa Lyman.
Reynolds replaces Chad Teichert who resigned to return to his home state of Wyoming and coach Star Valley High School.
